Preserving a ritual is not the same as performing it for someone.

Wherever possible, the goal is for your parent to keep doing the things that matter to them, with whatever support they need to manage it. Your parent's routines include you.

The person, not just the patient

When someone needs care, there is a real risk that they slowly stop being seen as a person with a life, a faith, a passion and a way of doing things, and start being seen as a set of needs to be met.

Protecting your parent's routines and rituals is how you push back against that.
